One of the oldest and most used roller coasters in the southeast, The Dahlonega Mine Train still stands tall at Six Flags over Georgia. Since opening with the park in 1967, the DMT has been considered to be one of the best mine train coasters in the nation. The look, theme, and queue line are all based on the early Dahlonega gold rush, with the coaster being the runaway mine train. To fit this theme, brown colors were used for the track and queue house, and some interesting "country" items were spread out to give it a nice, but not terrific theme on the outside. The ride itself uses the terrain to its advantage slightly. When you go in and out of the small helixes, the terrain is used to make the coaster go, and if if you ever think about it notice how low to the ground you are after the first hill! Sure the ride is good for the first two in a half minutes, but the last part is half the reason why people ride this coaster. When you go through the last underground slope, you do actually feel like your in a runaway mine train, and is the key to this rides success. People say they usually pass this coaster by, but I highly recommend this for ALL coaster people! |
